Rules and Regulations - 2024-2025 Season

Equipment

 

  • A CSA-approved hockey helmet with a full face covering is mandatory, along with hockey gloves, a hockey stick and shin pads.

  • Only dry running shoes are allowed to be used. No open-toed or wet footwear will be allowed.

  • A hard orange ball will be used.

  • Goalies must wear full equipment during the game. Equipment will be available if needed.

  • Anyone who does not have the proper equipment will not be allowed to play.

 

Season & Games

 

  • There will be 3 10-minute periods which are run time. Faceoffs will take place after every stoppage.

  • The floating blueline offside rule will be implemented in all of the divisions.

  • The No-Touch Icing rule will only be implemented in Division A Boys.

  • Teams can have a minimum of six players on the floor at a time, including one goalie.
  • A team can have a minimum of six players to start a game.

  • Each team will be permitted one 30-second timeout during each game.

  • If the game ends in a tie, there will be sudden death overtime for five minutes.

  • If a regular season game is tied at the end of overtime, there will be a best-of-three shootout.

  • No games during the Winter Break.

  • 2-minute penalty for any minor infraction.

  • Any unsportsmanlike conduct will result in a warning, with an added 2 minutes in the penalty box if it happens again.

  • Fighting will result in an ejection from the game and a possible suspension.

  • High stick: 2-minute penalty if a player hits the ball with his stick or if it in contact with a player anywhere above their shoulders.

Attendance (Boys)

 

  • Division A and B players must play in 6 Regular Season games in order to play in the playoffs.

  • Division C must play in 5 Regular Season games and attend a minimum of 2 practice sessions in order to play in the playoffs.

  • Anyone that comes after the 1st period will not be allowed to play.

  • Unexplained absences will be noted.

  • If a goalie cannot attend, the team must put one of their own players in goal for that game. Teams will not be permitted to use a goalie from another team, regardless of their age.
     

Attendance (Girls)

 

  • Every player must attend a minimum of 6 regular season games and all 3 bye week practices in order to play in the playoffs.

  • Anyone that comes after the end of the first period will not be allowed to play.

  • Unexplained absences will be noted.

  • If a goalie cannot attend, the team must put one of their own players in goal for that game. Teams will not be permitted to use a goalie from another team, regardless of their age.

 

Dress Code

 

  • Boys
    • Jerseys & bottoms which cover below the knees are mandatory.

    • Only clean/dry running shoes should be worn in the gym. Winter boots/wet footwear must be changed in the lobby before entering.

    • Slides, cleats, or open footwear will not be allowed while playing.

    • Jewelry should not be worn during games.

  • Girls

    • Long-sleeved shirts and loose bottoms that cover up until the ankles are mandatory (transparent/form fitting clothing will NOT be permitted).

    • Only clean/dry running shoes should be worn in the gym. Winter boots/wet footwear must be changed in the lobby before entering.

    • Slides, cleats, or open footwear will not be allowed while playing.

    • Jewelry should not be worn during games.

 

Spectators:

 

  • It is requested that all spectators attending DIBHA regular season games follow the same rules and procedures outlined for our players below.
  • Spectators are allowed to be present for games played by members of the Boys’ division and Junior Girls’ division. However, we ask that only female spectators be present for the Senior Girls’ division and all male spectators and volunteers will exit the gym during game time.
  • Spectators are asked to refrain from coaching the players or advising the referees during the game.
  • Sportsmanship, brotherhood, and sisterhood always takes precedence thus, spectators are asked to refrain from any behaviour which would be deemed to negate these three concepts.

Players Code of Conduct

 

  • Respect the rules of the game and opponents.
  • Coming on time - please ensure you arrive early to your game as we have a limited time slot at the gym. Anyone who arrives after the first half is over will NOT be allowed to play.
  • Attendance is crucial to your team's success, and it is important that players contact their coaches if they are unable to attend a certain week. Failure to attend regularly without notice will result in the player being removed from the league.
  • If any coaches/volunteers will be absent at their designated timeslot, please let the league organizers know via phone or email at least 24 hours prior.
  • Maintaining self-control at all times.
  • Respect the officials and their calls.
  • Swearing is prohibited at all times.
  • Smoking and vaping is prohibited at all times inside the school, arena, or on property during DIBHA events.

 

 

Registration, Waitlists & Refunds:

 

  • All registration fees, once paid will not be refunded when registration for the regular season is closed. As the DIBHA is not-for-profit entity, and all monetary funds collected through registration fees and sponsorships go back into the organization to cover all related expenses. However, if there are any medical issues that arise or unforeseen circumstances then refunds may be issued on a case-by-case basis.
  • All participants are required to complete the registration form prior to the assigned registration deadlines.
  • If registration is full, you will be asked to fill out a waiting list form for the season. As space becomes available potential players will be contacted according to their place on the waitlist.
  • If a paid participant faces an unexpected medical issue or unforeseen circumstances which inhibits their ability to play, a refund may be issued. However, each situation will be examined and evaluated in accordance with league rules.

The DIBHA commissioners can overrule any coach or volunteer at any point during the season or playoffs.
