Background

The idea of the DIBHA came to fruition in the spring of 2022 where a young ball hockey player asked
likeminded youth if they would be interested in playing in a local Muslim ball hockey league. From there
many conversations took place, emails were sent, and phone calls made to allow for the first season of
DIBHA to begin in October 2022. The 2022-2023 season spanned a period of 15 weeks with 52 players
participating in one of 2 divisions with a total of 7 teams.

Moving forward, we continue to grow and expand. Alhamdulillah due to increase in demand during our second season, a third division was added to the boys’ program to allow children ages 7 and up to also benefit and participate. Along with that, we are pleased to have added a separate girls’ program for children ages 7-16 years of age.

Purpose and Vision

1. To encourage and instill positive Muslim identity amongst all DIBHA participants.
2. To learn and excel at the game of ball hockey while maintaining an attitude of sportsmanship and Akhlaaq based upon our sunnah.
3. To build and connect with member of our Muslim community within Durham region. To provide a venue where positive relationships are formed and will Insha’Allah to become lifelong friendships.
