Volunteer Code of Conduct

VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT

DIBHA expects all volunteers to represent the Association positively and to help provide a safe, respectful, organized, and welcoming environment for players, families, coaches, officials, and the broader community. This Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for all volunteers. Non-compliance may result in removal from volunteer duties and may affect eligibility for volunteer-hour verification or future references.

Responsibilities of DIBHA Volunteers

Support the DIBHA Community: Help create a positive environment that reflects DIBHA's values of faith, sport, character, teamwork, and community.

Follow DIBHA Policies: Abide by all DIBHA rules, policies, procedures, schedules, and directions from designated DIBHA league organizers.

Maintain Respect: Treat players, families, coaches, referees, opponents, spectators, facility staff, and other volunteers with respect. Offensive, abusive, humiliating, threatening, or discriminatory behaviour is not acceptable.

Prioritize Safety: Always prioritize the safety and well-being of participants and promptly communicate significant safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate DIBHA organizer.

On-Rink Authority: When something is happening on the rink - including disputes, altercations, penalties, or other incidents - only designated referees and DIBHA league organizers should deal with it. General volunteers must not enter the playing surface or attempt to intervene unless specifically directed to do so, except in an immediate serious safety emergency.

Respect Officials: Respect referee decisions and do not argue with, confront, threaten, or encourage others to challenge officials. Concerns should be brought to DIBHA organizers through the appropriate process.

Be a Role Model: Demonstrate good Akhlaaq, patience, self-control, honesty, sportsmanship, and professionalism. Volunteers are role models within the DIBHA community.

Be Reliable: Arrive on time, complete assigned responsibilities, and communicate as early as possible when unable to attend a scheduled volunteer commitment.

Protect the DIBHA Environment: Do not swear, smoke, or vape during DIBHA events. Respect facilities, equipment, participant boundaries, and DIBHA's Muslim community environment.

Communicate Appropriately: Keep communication respectful, clear, and appropriate. Do not engage in public arguments or involve players in disputes between adults. League-wide concerns should be referred to DIBHA organizers.

Promote Sportsmanship: Encourage teamwork, respect, fair play, positive participation, and good sportsmanship. Competition never justifies poor character or unsafe behaviour.

Represent DIBHA Positively: Volunteers represent DIBHA whenever they are acting in a volunteer role or communicating on behalf of the Association. Conduct should reflect positively on DIBHA at all times.

Volunteer Hours & References

Volunteer hours are earned through completed and verified volunteer service. Signing up for a shift or being assigned a role does not automatically mean hours are earned. Volunteers are expected to arrive on time, complete the assigned responsibilities, and remain for the required duration. DIBHA may decline to verify hours for shifts that are not completed or for volunteer service that does not meet the expected standard of conduct and responsibility.

References are earned through consistent and responsible service; they are not automatically provided simply because someone has volunteered with DIBHA. A volunteer requesting a reference should demonstrate reliability, professionalism, appropriate conduct, respect for DIBHA policies, and a meaningful record of completed volunteer service.

DIBHA organizers may provide a reference at their discretion based on the volunteer's overall service and conduct.

DIBHA is committed to upholding these standards to ensure a respectful, safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
